Reface, Refinish, or Replace? Choosing the Right Cabinet Update

When a kitchen feels dated, homeowners often assume they need all-new cabinets — and sometimes they do. But two other options, refacing and refinishing, can deliver a dramatic change for a fraction of the cost when the situation is right. Here's how to think it through.

Start with your boxes and layout

The deciding factor is almost always the condition of your cabinet boxes and whether your layout works. If the boxes are solid and you're happy with where everything is, you're a strong candidate for the lower-cost options. If the boxes are water-damaged or falling apart, or you want to change the layout, add cabinets, or reconfigure the kitchen, new custom cabinets are the right call.

Refinishing: a new color, same cabinets

If your cabinets are good quality and simply the wrong color or looking worn, professional refinishing is the least invasive option. We prep thoroughly and spray a durable, factory-smooth finish in whatever color you choose. It's ideal for solid wood cabinets that are structurally excellent and just dated — common in many Greenville homes.

Refacing: new doors and faces

Refacing goes a step further, replacing the doors, drawer fronts, and the visible veneer on the boxes while keeping the boxes in place. You get what looks like an entirely new kitchen, including a new door style, for well under the cost of replacement, usually in just a few days.

Replacing: when you want it all

New custom cabinets are the answer when you want to change the layout, add storage, fix damaged boxes, or simply have everything built new to your exact space. It's the biggest investment but also the most complete transformation.
